The God of the Old testament does seem more like the Gnostic Demiurge than the loving God of the New Testament that sent his Son to save us
Evil has been accounted for in 4 different ways among religious traditions throughout history.
1. Evil is from God
2. Evil is from a malign counter-god, like some dualist thing where there's a good god and a bad god
3. Evil is from human ignorance
4. Evil is from human sin
Christians seem to think that God isn't evil because he's God and he can just do whatever he wants, because might makes right, or whatever, and evil actually comes from human sin since we have free choice.
I think the gnostic view is interesting, they seem to think that the fallen world we live in was created by an arrogant, flawed god, and that might explain our flawed human nature and this fallen world we live in. Genesis says that we were created in God's image, so that must mean God is flawed? Then maybe that means the Gnostics are right, idk
