I have the same problem with minecraft modpacks. Not only are they just full of wank you don't want or need, but they also actively erode your ability to mod manually.
A while back I blew a person's mind by telling them you can make your own forge server entirely for free on your own computer without using an external hosting site. They had no idea. They didn't even know how to install Forge (a process now done through a fucking installer).
Modpacks are a blight.
