Well I never really went around Athens much, I have been to a few apartments and they were very cozy from my experience. Most houses built the last 20 years are up to modern standards and much MUCH better quality than american homes. They are built with hard brick/cement materials that last generations, here the homes are made from Mexican scrap wood and drywall. I have visited some homes in USA that would put Bruce Wayne(Batman) to shame, literal castle mansion stuff, you won't find that in Greece but cozy well built standard homes with a little backyard are very common. Many places there received "modern upgrades" over last 20 years
