>how do I stop buying samples?
Samples are a straight up scam. They only made sense when you could get an infinite number of them for free. Paying for samples is just throwing your money away even when they give you a discount on the bottle. There can also be variance from sample to bottle so you can easily be misguided into a purchase. When you finish a sample you are left with nothing but missing money. Even if you get a bottle you don't like at least you are left with an actual bottle you can sell, gift, save, collect, or just experiment with. Of course blind buying is daunting and can go terribly if you don't learn from your mistakes. The early stages of experiencing perfumes are the hardest, you really need to hone into what you like and don't like so you can eyeball the notes, accords, gender, perfumer, etc.., and have a good idea what to expect. It's not perfect and it takes time but I find it a better experience and less of a gamble than samples. Everyone is different of course, and 2ml might be enough for some but it's not enough for me to make up my mind. I can get an impression from smelling something once but I don't get an accurate picture until I have worn something at least a couple times on different occasions. I have regretted all my blunders with samples but I have never regretted a single blunder with a bottle.

P.S. Spraying on paper is BS too, skin or bust.
