This. Our grandparents did not have this problem as grandma was constantly churning out kids.
The utilitarian's folly is not understanding that death plays a vital role in ecological health.
By making sure "nothing bad happens" we have set ourselves up for ecological suicide.
Worse, there's no reverse gear as arguing for higher infant mortality isn't going to fly with anyone.
But hey instead of being really sad some of the time now we're only kinda sad all of the time so yay progress!
