Assuming you'll mostly be in Vancouver...
The weather is still beautiful and summery in September, definitely lots of opportunities for hiking and nature stuff. The Grouse Mountain "Grind" is the most popular hike.
The BC Sports Hall of Fame is actually pretty neat for /hoc/ stuff.
Whistler is good choice for the day off too, easier trip than Victoria and can be checked out in a day. But be careful there's lots of Australians there.
