Interesting observation because NGE has been interpreted as a time loop with the anime serving as the first loop we see and EoE serving as the end of the second loop. Some people will argue that EoE and the original last two episodes are one and the same, but EoE contains intentional differences in scenes to illustrate that we're looking at two timelines, and EoE is the darker timeline. EoE is both a sequel to the original series and an "alternative ending" in Anno's words.

Which is kind of interesting because it seems like someone working on NGE caught on to the time loop stuff in Twin Peaks. I've always been curious as to what Kojima would have done with PT/Silent Hills because he's a huge fan of Twin Peaks, Evangelion, and Solaris. He's even tweeted about how Twin Peaks and other media reminds him of PT.
