Knives are not as effective weapons and bombs require more planning and are much more prone to failure, sometimes they blow up in the face of the man planting it. Although after the Oklahoma City bombing, they passed laws making it extremely difficult to obtain the quantities of the supplies needed to create a bomb of that strength.
