It's a somethingburger for sure still. Mare was BIG in terms of usage, this is just going to splinter the larger base to stay more under the radar. Mare flew too close to the sun, mostly due to user data gathering methods to tracking I'm guessing. As long as SE doesn't go nuclear on mods all together, ie Penumbra, it'll go back to mostly normal in a few months. People just need time to spin up more forks/solutions. The private fork that's out there already froze signups, but that's temp. The worry is less about getting a new solution, and more about the fear SE moves on anything else.

Private as in you can't just go willy nilly and get the plugin. The fork that's out there was always open, but has now locked it down. Mare was too big, that's just how it is. Keeping who can access the servers is way more feasible for the long run and data control.
