I've just come around to realizing there is, short of bringing in Miss Yaoi and her ability to turn shit around on a dime (and there's no guarantee she'll keep striking gold every time) no way they can actually make an equal or better storyline. They have three expansions left before 10.0. And in the best of times Yoshi had said they wanted to do 4-5 more, but 10.0 is going to be nearly or past 2030. It's not going to get more expansions than that.

So you have three expansions because of Dawntrail's flubbing to try and come up with a great narrative that is largely self contained aside of Azem because they decided to kill off all the fucking plot hooks from the past. There's still a mild possibility of salvaging old material (time travel, Garlean legion that survived) but it's not likely. They already shot the emotional load with the scions in Endwalker. I detest capeshit but it's the same situation as Disney playing up a big climatic finish to their near decade long cinematic story and then being left with the trouble of "What the fuck do you do next?"

It's possible to turn it around, sure. Ishikawa got edible lettuce to go from afraid of katanas to the rains have ceased in a literal patch cycle or two. But she's being used on FF17 and it's the freshmen and interns they're handing XIV off to. But it's not exactly high faith in them doing so.

They really should have spread endwalker to 7.0 or 8.0, ended the plot, and then after that it's purely no frills whimsical adventures. Treasure under the ocean isn't a portal to the 13th it's treasures a pirate wants to compete with you to get. It has to be a culmination of multiple things, but my guess would be that it began by girls who got mindbroken by beauty standards (they remind me a bit of bratz dolls) and when they had an outlet to create their "idea" of beauty, they made some kind of proto version of what you posted.
