>dim stars
Are you retarded? The moon has no atmosphere to refract and scatter light, even during daylight the stars would be bright, and during night would be absurd, brighter than anywhere on earth.
>gottchas
They didn’t even try to fake the stars because in the 60s they literally didn’t have the compute to calculate the correct positions, and the hoax would have collapsed when some autist spent a month going ham on a slide ruler to check a star or two

>what is focal length
Looking at it again, I realized why it’s so obviously fake, the light and shadow (or lack thereof). Focal length does not make the foreground dimmer nor erase shadows, if it were day the foreground would be vastly brighter than the Earth, if it were night the Earth would be casting shadows on the moon just as the moon casts shadows on Earth at night.
Where are the shadows? Given the angle of the Earth in the picture, there should be long shadows stretching towards the camera, yet we see none.
