What truly soured Megumi's reputation is that he's supposed to be a deuteragonist. This is a role given to someone who should be of importance and likability. People shit on Yuji for not being impressive for a MC but he was a solid character all around. You can't even say that for Megumi. Hell, promotional material has these three as the absolute best.
