Only 1 of the 12 steps is about alcohol/drugs (na is the same thing they replace the word alcohol with drugs so those idiots think it's different. 6 of the 12 steps mention God or a "higher power". I did this shit for 6 years everything is bait and switch it is 100% a cult and it does help when you hit what you perceive to be "rock bottom" but the idea that you need to do it till you die, that it is a disease, or that it's obvious Catholic cult steps will somehow have you doing a 1 on 1 with "god" are fucking ridiculous. I only go back because I'm lonely as fuck and want to be around people forced to listen to me and then we hang out and I socially smoke afterwards. There are many books and online resources for why it's a cult written by doctors and qualified mental health professionals and I highly recommend reading them I have read 3. Bottom line it is a cult but when you stop showing up, in my experience, nobody so much as sent me a text asking if I was alive or dead nobody gives a fuck. HOWEVER I didn't attend the inner cult AA MEN ONLY meetings those mother fuckers do crazy shit like that.
