I found that smaller subreddits that talk about specific games, subjects, and hobbies are usually pretty good. It feels more like the old internet where people would congregate into smaller groups. Once the subreddit gets too big then the people willing to talk and help you are overwhelmed by the general wave of people who want to argue and flood the forum.
/v/ is still sadly the only place I've found where you can discuss games in a reasonable manner. It is a shell of its former self of course, but at least you can have some discussion here.
