your main character does not have to be a "good guy" or "show growth". what matters is what the overall narrative says about his place and who he is and the morality of what he does. there is no fanfare in the story for kratos, he always has and always will live a miserable existence because of who he is. trying to rewrite him to be a wholesome father after being a genocidal monster is stupid as fuck, especially if it is in an attempt to "own the chuds" or to "get the chuds to realize their folly". no amount of changing the character will get people to change their mind, the only people who would agree with the change are people who already agreed with it. what these retards don't understand is that you can still think kratos is a piece of shit in the old trilogy and not want to see him changed. it is lazy writing to change the character so dramatically and without buildup to it, just going "OOPS TIMEJUMP, HE'S A CHANGED MAN". if you are a good writer you will take the flaws of the character and pronounce them, highlight them, throughout the narrative to show how this is not who you want to be RATHER than say "look he was bad and changed, you can too!" this self insert bullshit is retarded and i am tired of writers getting into their 30s and 40s and suddenly going "lol i can only write about having a kid now". it's the most vile and bland thing you could, the banality of that existence is utterly repulsive.
