>it was the zenith of the neocon takeover of the US
>its such a relief that theyre all dead, dying, or irrelevant now
The neocons are trying to get back into the driver's seat, and Trump seems willing to accommodate them, at least somewhat. If he gives them an inch, they will surely take a mile.
During the bombing of Iran, Trump got a lot of blowback from supporters who wanted no more foreign, especially Middle Eastern, military engagements. I think it was telling that one of Trump's responses to his critical own supporters was to say "I decide what MAGA means."
Trump is a boomer. Boomers love the idea of a muscular America pushing the world around, err, I mean, spreading freedom. Trump is naturally even a Zionist. I doubt he needs to be blackmailed by Mossad because he himself loves Jews because Jews are the epitome of material success and cunning in business and politics. He married his daughter off to a Jew to tie his family to a powerful Jewish family and ally with the Jews in general.
And, many boomers are still very salty at Iran for the overthrow of the Shah we helped install there and the ensuing Iran Hostage Crisis, which was a massive blow to US morale at a time when things were going badly for America already (the late 70s oil crisis, stagflation, the recent embarrassing Fall of Saigon that looked like the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, and America's defeat in Vietnam in 1973).
The humiliation of the Iran Hostage Crisis seemed like too much for patriotic Americans of the time to bear, given all that had happened recently. Many boomers still want to get back at Iran for this humiliation.
