Films don't work anymore. There's not enough cinema-going audience, the ones that are there just endlessly whine "dis jus da same thing! xeno is dead it has to be diffrunt! not scurry!" blah blah. It has to default to a stupid haunted house slasher movie to get any box office. We all thought it'd work as a TV show since they would finally be able to expand the universe showing the lore that's been there for decades. And look how poorly that turned out. At least they finally acknowledged that there's more than just weyland yutani and it's not controlling the entire galaxy.

Alien has always been ripe for a long fleshed out storyline with competing factions and companies. It's the retarded movie directors that can't understand it, but the games and comics did it pretty well. It's not simply about the xenomorph just chasing people around. The primary thing that's interesting is the aesthetic and retrofuture of the setting. Makes it comfy yet available for scares every once in a while.
