I just don't get how we turn action or horror 2 hour movies into 8-10 hour series. Clearly they're entirely different in tone. They must all evolve into human vs human drama instead of the simplicity of the source.

Alien has always been ripe for a long fleshed out storyline with competing factions and companies. It's the retarded movie directors that can't understand it, but the games and comics did it pretty well. It's not simply about the xenomorph just chasing people around. The primary thing that's interesting is the aesthetic and retrofuture of the setting. Makes it comfy yet available for scares every once in a while.
