CGL is doing playtesting for a new edition of Battletech that is going to include a bunch of foundational changes to the game. Not just gear tweaks, but core things. There was a partial leak in the Megamek discord this morning, and a few people have seen agent internal documents, but mostly nobody is sure what's happening or how far CGL is willing to go to permanently ruin the game. And nobody has a full copy of the proposed rules. Between the various leaks, I've seen independent confirmation of
>init changes that penalize you for outnumbering the enemy
>mechs no longer falling when losing a leg
>ammo no longer exploding
>simplification of BV calcs, terrain modifiers, to hit modifiers, weapons and equipment
>physical attacks don't work the same
>ECM no longer shuts down C3
>removal of some equipment like mechanical jump boosters
>simplification and even removal of multiple damage clusters
>simplification and removal of hit location tables
>basically anything that can 1 shot kill a mech is gone except for head capping
>combat vehicle cards become mandatory
>invalidation of existing TROs and record sheets
>maximum game size is capped at 12 mechs per side
>maximum turn length is 10 turns
>general intent of making the game faster to play and more suitable for BV balanced competition play, campaign play is no longer supported.
