Came to this conversation late, but… yeah, automotive is like the worst trade to get into.
Diesel or any off-road equipment is way fucking better. Pluming, electrical, HVAC are all real straight especially if you get in the union. I’m playing mechanic right now at a water plant and it has been fun because it’s everything from the air conditioner in the office building to pickup trucks we use for towing and parts to a starter on a yard dog that moves trailers around the plant. Also a while lot of 460V 3 phase electrical motors and panels.
