Perfect. I want to make a Rosary with the cord and cross that I've been wearing since my conversion. I want it to still be a necklace. I've already been winding thread for the beads which is nice and subtle but I had the perfect idea.
Is there anyway to preserve rose seeds, incase them in something perhaps, in a way I could wind them into the beads and daily wear them but they could still be able to grow? If not I'll just do it anyway and it'll be symbolic.
Or any other ideas for subtle but classy rosaries like this. I was also thinking of very small silver pieces. I don't want the beads to be too big.

So you want to believe in the Christian cosmology but you're so dumb you're rooting for no free will and eternal torture? Instead of the loving all powerful creator you think a created being is cool?

You absolutely can. Read St Louis de Montforts Secret of the Rosary. People even claimed they could exorcise demons by putting their rosaries around someones neck.

I heard the crusaders used to tie their rosaries to the left side of their belt, so when they drew their sword to slaughter some Muzzies, the sword was blessed.

You sound like a Twitter convert. I was raised in the Church and that was a major faux pas. Catholics seeking religious jewelry just wear a necklace with a crucifix pendant. Ask your priest if you don't believe me

Basically none of it. We can go back to dead sea scrolls and Greek manuscripts from 60 ad and there's no doctrinal significant changes.

No, I'm from an immigrant family. I am already baptised and confirmed. I could have said reversion but this really is the first time I'm embracing the gospel message, all thanks to Therese and a suicidal crisis that made me abandon all worldly hope.
Most rosaries aren't made to be necklaces, the one I'm making is. I'm perfectly fine with making faux pas among the standard neo thomist fish fry catholic north american culture. My catholicity is folk and warm. I loved Pope Francis.

I think the earliest found manuscript in general was 6th century bc, which is pretty neat. The various dead sea scrolls and septuagint are a lot more complete though and are around 2nd century BC to 1st century AD
>>2943057
not sure which part about the dead sea scrolls would be fake, they're just a collection of various writings that were saved in an area. Some religious, some cultural, etc. The Johannine comma is unrelated to the dead sea scrolls, but rather an addition mostly used in the medieval era that was likely just initially meant as a note in even earlier manuscripts. You probably won't find it in your Bible unless you use the KJV translation.

And the dead sea scrolls proved all of our other preserved texts were good. They came at a time when anthropologist and archeologists were writing papers on phone games and text changes and all these nice graphs how ALL texts must change over time.

Then dead sea scrolls came put and pushed our oldest original texts back 800 years and showed there had been no changes in those 800 years and we had previously determined there had been no changes from the previous date to the present. How embarrassing for all those academics.

Esoteric. Some guys went around saying they're part of demonology but demons are spirits so they can't breed with women. They could have been great patriarchs from cans descent. They were killed off during the flood or was part of israel's commission to take pit these last creatures

Elohim aren't demons, they're some sort of physical living, breathing and mortal being that enjoys smelling burning animal fat (like for real they seem to get high or sedated from it. it's why there's so much about tabernacles) and have a bunch of flying machines. Yahweh and Baal were both elohim the highest elohim was titled elyon, many other elohim arel mentioned in the OT, yahweh was elevated to promincence by a bunch of 6th century bc rabbi prior to that he was only one of many. interestingly these elohim have equivalents in a vast number of ancient texts from around the world

That isn't what the Bible says, though
'Elohim' is mostly just used as a title for God. 'El' is the word for 'divine' or 'god,' and is in the plural form as a sign of respect (English used to do a similar thing, you is the plural of thou, but also you was used as a formal version of thou).
While 'el' can refer to any divine or similar being (hebrew didn't have the same definition of 'god' as we have now in English), it's typically used for God Himself.
'Elyon' is just 'most high,' so when the Bible says 'El Elyon' it's 'God most high.' You can see instances of 'elyon' being used as physical descriptors in other areas of the Bible, and in some areas calling God the most high.

Elohim is not plural "as a sign of respect". That's a retcon

Elohim is plural because the proto-Hebrews were POLYTHEISTS (like all other Semitic people). Yahweh was just one god among many. They said "Elohim" (the gods) in the oldest texts, before they went monotheist, to refer to them all collectively.

The idea that "it's plural because respect" is later stage cope.

There are cases where the word elohim is used in the singular and cases in the plural. Forget the details. But one of them refers to the elohim of the nation's, gentiles, as opposed to the elohim of Israel. Which would make it a henotheism ?.. I think is the right word. Acknowledging multiple gods but worshiping one. Another refers to men themselves as elohim in a poetic way. Saying 'men are gods' something to that effect.
Anyway, it's pretty well understood that Hebrews monotheism took time to develop. The important part is that it did. Because it's the truth.
Anonymous No.2943195
>>2943162
It isn't just a 'retcon,' there are plenty instances where the grammar surrounding the word itself is singular yet the word is plural. This wouldn't make sense if it was supposed to be taken as plural entirely. And this isn't necessarily a weird thing, other languages have or had the same feature, including English.
Some cases may refer to multiple beings, but to say it's multiple gods the same way we use the word today doesn't quite transfer over. They would consider 'angels' and 'demons' as part of 'gods' (or rather described by 'elohim') as well, which our modern definition of 'god' would not typically count such beings. You're trying to apply our modern culture and understanding to one from a few thousand years ago, instead of trying to understand it as its own thing.

>Elohim is plural because the proto-Hebrews were POLYTHEISTS (like all other Semitic people)
No, it's plural because, well there were a lot of those beings running around, they were real physical beings driving around kavods. Only much later did theologists turn a history book into a religious text.

This thread seems like it will be easier than most /diy/ threads to derail.

Does reforming the church and revoking vatican ii count as too big a project, I feel like I'd get burnt out.

St Francis was a real OG. He came from a rich family and was like “This aint all it’s cracked up to be”. And he found a church he liked that was in disrepair, went and stole a bunch of silk and linens from his rich dad and sold it and used that money for materials to start rebuilding the church.

Some people did enough bullying, knew it all, were way smarter than all those dumb people who had God because they didn’t understand science. And then they got a little bit older and wiser and the more they saw the world, the more they realized that science barely explains any of it and there’s something bigger at work.

There’s a cool Rogan episode where he’s interviewing an American astronaut who was the dude with the most time in space out of anybody,

They get into the conversation about something bigger, maybe aliens or intelligent design, and astronaut dude says something along the lines of “Now I may just be a fighter jet pilot, but we did tons of experiments on the ISS trying to see what it takes for biological life to get going, and too many things have to come together perfectly for all of this to happen without some help”.

It’s about humility.

On a more practical level, if you’re trying to be less shitty at life and want to be a better husband-boyfriend-son-brother-coworker, there’s a book called “Sermon On The Mount” by Emmet Fox that was recommended to me a bunch over the years. He looks at what Jesus taught, how it’s a change from Old Testament stuff, and how to work it in your life without worrying about the rituals imposed by organized religions.

Jesus trolled the shit out of the Pharisees, those guys were all about who was the most holy because they followed all the lame rituals.
