The entire point of NATO is deterrence. If someone were to attack a NATO country and the rest of the members would just go "eh, not worth going to war over that shithole", the whole premise of NATO instantly falls apart.
You can't *not* respond to an open aggression against a member state if you want the alliance to keep existing at all.
