This is probably one of the worst takes I've seen because I feel like you actually believe that. The side routes take advantage of the medium by presenting "what-ifs" that are canon in the sense they're in-character explorations of different sides of their personalities. If it were a VN it would be "you made the wrong choices, you die loser." If it were a book it'd be one linear story. Nemlei is taking advantage of the medium to flesh out the characters further, and saying it's "bloat" is fucking heretical.

I always advocate people not do dumb shit with their siblings like trying some crazy love confession or anything like that. There's nothing more heartbreaking than reading the (hopefully fake, God willing) stories of people who ruined their life and their relationship because the idea sounded hot and they didn't think to masturbate before making such an earth-shatteringly dumb decision.
