Try has two major problems. The first is that none of the main story makes much sense unless you're familiar with the light novels and Kanzaka's other work, Lost Universe. This meant Western audiences had literally no idea what was going on since the only other Slayers media the West had before fangroups got it done were poorly translated TokyoPop light novels, and only half of them were even printed.
The second problem is that it has the absolute worst filler in the franchise, even worse than Revo/Evo, and they put the filler in the most inappropriate spot during the main plot.
