Its mostly a trend issue. Sure, it's broken records but a lot of that is because the console has been more readily available than any console launch in history. At the same time, we're seeing sales continue to decline week over week with only two weeks bucking the trend (the week DK came out and the last one due to a holiday). If you look at what the Switch 1 did the same time last year, it sold 44K and that was after the console had sold millions in the country. It being down to 30K is awful

People are focusing too much on Switch sales to Sony sales. Traditional consoles haven't sold well in Japan since the PS2. Its always been a handheld back so, yeah, the handheld device is going to outsell the console. You might as well celebrate the Switch 2 outsold liquid dog shit.

Its moreso that Nintendo tried to court an audience that only really cared about the "expanded audience" titles and Nintendo thought they could cater to two audiences. It should have been obvious that the Switch 2 was never going to be the Wii U because the Wii U's situation was so unique. The system you should look at is the 3DS. Beyond it being a handheld, it was also very expensive and didn't have a ton of games much like Switch 2. There was a long gap between releases, much like Switch 2 is about to have (the next game is Kirby and it doesn't even have a release date, let alone anything other than a teaser trailer). The system also sold faster than the DS did. We might be seeing something like this with the Switch 2. It's sold 6 million, but more than half (3.5) were in the first 4 days. So sales are already very front loaded. While we don't have Famitsu sales figures this week, it has dropped 30% for the last two weeks. The system is available at any retailer. It will likely run into the same issues of the 3DS because Nintendo is taking too long for games to come out and the system is very expensive. Couple this with the fact that spending is down industry wide and down especially with 18-24 yrs old and you'll see sales drop like a rock over the next few months.
