Jeff G said the sf he was with were trained and learned their holds to to engage with elcan mk18s out to ~700 yards. You could get hits under good conditions but how effective would even 77gr smks be out of a 10.3 barrel beyond 500 yards? Typically mk18s were used for clearing structures and as pdws, sf had crew served and vehicle mounted heavy weapons to employ on top of having airpower and fire support on speed dial. I have no doubt somebody somewhere scored a hit with a mk18 past 600 yards in combat but who knows if it resulted in a kill.
