There is nothing else as durable as the ACOG.
The ELCAN is close but there are moving parts. Price and weight are also factors to consider.
A red dot magnifier is generally the easiest to use and most applicable to a wide array of uses, fairly durable and reliable, but it has its own limitations as a concept and all red dots are not created equal, some have many issues some rarely have any.
There are scopes that are more durable and scopes that are less durable and scopes that are more prone to issues but unless theyโre fixed power they are going to have a lot of very small internal moving parts which can be damaged through impacts or even driving on unpaved roads.
When it comes to optics at large there is a matrix of trade offs.
With scopes you get a wide range of magnification and reticle options but you lose durability.
When you get into LPVOs vs MPVOs you get a whole new set of trade offs.
Regardless, you need to decide what you want the most, why you want it, what youโre willing to give up to get it, accept the reality of physical limitations, then make a decision with all of that in mind.
