I think you're right. Every shitpost here, somehow, is just an extension of the Final Fantasy VII House. Every single one of them. There are many reasons why he chose to grift to XIII, but perhaps the most prominent among them might be the fact that Lightning is female Cloud. I do wonder if this mirrors anything within his real life, perhaps a more personal transition. This whole charade could, in reality, be more symbolic for him than any of us realize.
