>I was just wondering if sentences like this also sound exotic to native Japanese speakers.
I've never played the game, but Chinese words sound stiff and formal to me because they're all written in kanji.

>The 玄文獣 (げんもんじゅう) is a magical beast which is apparently named after dark patterns on its fur (had to look this up in the game wiki).
I see, thank you for the information.

玄 is used in the sense of dark, black, reddish black, deep, profound in Japanese too.
>玄米 (げんまい) / brown rice
>玄関 (げんかん) / the front entrance of a house.
>玄人 (くろうと) / an expert, a professor, a master.

By the way, I never knew 玄関 was originally a Buddhist term for the a profound path to the Buddhist discipline until I searched for the etymology of the word.

>Is it just to make her seem more childish/innocent, like a kid who just recently learnt about it?

Here in Japan, you can buy:
>a 350ml can of beer for 150 to 300 yen ($1 to $2)
>a potato for 150 to 200 yen ($1 to $1.36)
>an American ribeye steak for 600 to 800 yen ($4 to $5.45) per 100 grams
(but I have no idea how many grams the steak is)

Anyways, everything is getting expensive in Japan too because of inflation.
