No idea what millenials are trying to do by retconning the 2000s as this horrible time to be alive. It was amazing. Turns out, women do better under the pressure to not be fat, and guys do better when they can call each other faggots and niggers and party without being constantly recorded 24/7. I think it's just a lot of 40+ guys who took a hard pivot left trying to solidify wokeism as a morally righteous thing and not a cancer that ruined a decade and a half of culture.

Why are they scared of the 2000s?
A big part of the current meta right now, and it's driven by millenials insecure about their hard left pivot in the 2010s, is to retcon the 2000s as the worst decade in the history of the world because you could call someone a fag in an Uno game on XBOX Live. I am too retarded to understand WHY this era causes so much seethe (maybe a backlash to the XTREME BRO Spike TV culture?)

But we didn't see this in the 2010s about the 90s or in the 2000s about the 80s when Vice City brought it back. What is it specifically about the 2000s that causes such left wing anguish?

Nobody gave a shit. Like nobody cared. Those people appear on TV and they might get recognized but it's not a viral internet meme like things become today. Everyone took things way less seriously.
