normies aren't very smart and think governments can't or won't spend money if they don't take it first via taxes, you have dumb ideas like "starve the beast" where pro-corpo politicians cut taxes while doing nothing meaningful to reduce total spending so national debt balloons out until default.
unfortunately it's not possible to have a rational discussion with normies over sensible tax reform to make the system fairer and more efficient because they just think "why don't they just cut spending on things I don't personally care about"
