Miranda actually gets very emotionally invested in Shepard. You can see the effect it has on her, in ME3 very clearly. She will die if you break up with her. I don't think she comes off as cold, or unavailable.

Jack is my girl, but between the two, I'd say Miranda is better. The thing is Jack doesn't care about whose better and being a better person, doesn't always make you the right person. There's a lot more that goes into it. I don't think Jack would consider herself better, just different. In fact, she takes offense at Miranda's attitude, exactly because she has that "better than you" demeanor.
