This is probably the best idea to go with for a Yoshi villain, and Wart being part of the dream world means you can do some original stuff with him too as well as tie it into Yoshi's generally cheerful and sunny mood.

I doubt the Mysterious Book will have anything interesting in it.

They're friends. All of them. Even Luigi's Mansion was just a well-made suit after that awful trojan contraption in Paper Mario made everyone laugh on set.
