What's tiresome about this 4chan ban thing is that we have to go through the whole bureaucratic red tape process just to reach the government's inevitable, desired end (UK ISPs being forced to block the site after non-compliance) that we all knew would happen from Day 1.

We have to go through weeks and months of unenforceable fines being issued, legal responses denying the fines, court hearings which go unattended etc when everyone already knows the outcome. It's all for show.

Even if the Donald Trump administration weigh in, it will only be to say to the UK "do not try to impose fines on US-based websites for non-compliance with UK laws". The white house won't comment on the next step, they won't say "don't you dare make UK ISPs stop serving 4chan to UK IPs" because then they're overstepping by telling the UK how it should or shouldn't enforce the UK's own laws within the UK.

I can't see any room for ISPs to push back once the buck is passed to them. They're UK-based companies with offices and assets here, making them susceptible to fines, and they're obliged to comply with UK law. At this point it is essentially guaranteed that 4chan will be unaccessible from the UK via the normal pathway in a matter of some weeks or months.

The relevant questions now are: will VPNs be outlawed and will Reform repeal the OSA when they get in? Those are the next 2 points on the road that actually matter, everything between now and then is a forgone conclusion.
