I never understood why people say Masks is one of the worst TNG episodes. Sure, it's your typical "Brent Spiner gets to act hammy again" episodes, but it's such a bizarre, out-there plot featuring a truly alien civilization that takes a while for our heroes to understand. Wonder and mystery that was missing that late in the seventh season.
