I have a family member with an auto-immune disease that causes her pain, but she's on the same obesity->death track you just described because of it. The pain doesn't make her obese, but it leads to doctors making money over-prescribing medicine to her, medicine making her feel like shit, grocery delivery services meaning she doesn't have to get up and get moving anymore, etc. Her taste palette is fucking fried because she doesn't feel like cooking, in the beginning because of her pain, but now its because of her sloth.
I don't believe there's any conspiracy here, but food slop megacorps and America's healthcare industry certainly do have a symbiotic relationship.
