honestly you don't need to learn much to start having fun, one midscreen and one corner combo is enough
i spent most of my time in lobbies rather than ranked so i could concentrate on getting better without sweating over ranked points
i agree about the speed being tough in fg's but it's a fairly slow paced game overall so you can get used to it with practice
if you want to try it it has a free version btw, though most of the roster will be locked
