The oldest attestation for Elves is actually in Pre-Norman England, we're not 100% where the myths originate but given that it's almost certainly from the PIE for White (Albh) we can guess that it actually originated in Central Europe.

Now for a theory: As they are essentially a discrete race who are older than "men" and live in the forest it's a pretty good guess that when the Aryans migrated Westwards from the Ukraine this was a term applied to the people they displaced, who were largely European Farmers and such, who survived for some time in the areas which could not be easily invaded with chariots (dense woodland areas, hills, mountains etc) and came to take on a mythological quality.

This is further supported by the fact that people have been calling stone arrowheads elfshot since remote antiquity. Since the European Farm cultures were in fact stone age, this would mean that this was not merely superstition, but in fact a forgotten artifact of early European ethnic conflict. The newcomers still remember that those really pale forest dudes kept shooting stone arrows at them 5000 years ago.

Anon, that was 15 years ago. There has been a generational change in the intervening decade and a half. Trans ideology took off in that time, and infected everything due to being funded by NGOs and being forcibly inserted into all media to try and normalize it. That very action of trying to force everyone to play make believe with mentally ill leftoids bred enormous resentment--just like trying to force everyone to pretend that black crime and buffoonery isn't a cultural plague bred enormous resentment.

At each point the corresponding surge of "-ism" has been a reaction to an astroturfed push from the top down to force people to go along with obvious falsehoods. Obviously anywhere where these falsehoods are repeated, you are going to get people who come in to start trouble in the same way that the easiest way to find Fedoras is to go to where people are having a religious discussion.

But one thing that should be obvious is that this is now a multi-generational cycle. It's not the same people. In many cases it isn't even the same ideology. You've now ended up on the receiving end of the Creationistt vs Evolution debate, and you're going to have to suffer through it just like the Christians did, until by the end you will admit that the Earth is not 6000 years old--I.E., YWNBAW.
