Sorry anon, but you know fully well that the Erebonia arc is the most cohesive arc in the entire series. It's very evident that they put their all into it and it showed. There is nothing to retcon here. When CSIV came out and I finished it I knew fully well that it would be impossible to top. Erebonia was Falcom's magnum opus, their War and Peace. Which by the way is also supported by the sales number. No one cares for your Liberl, Crossbell or Calvard, get over it.
