I buy a big pack (£80) every two to three months in Fate/Grand Order. I'm otherwise fairly frugal, I treat this as one of my allowed luxuries.

For me the turn around was when I realized this was a game I played for free every day for like 4 years and also I got a job and have spare cash to treat myself with.

I still think gacha game microtransactions are insanely priced for what they offer, but I now get how it can make sense on an individual level depending on income and investment into the game.

I've been replaying F-Zero GX via the Switch 2 Gamecube games. I had it as a kid but never unlocked the cool shit. I just beat Mission 7 and 8 in story and am going through the cups on Expert. 7 took a fuckton of tries. Shit's fun. My goal is to beat the story on Normal for now and then also unlock the AX cup.

Otherwise recently started Resident Evil 8 and am grinding in Fate/Grand Order. I also finally managed my goal of beating Act 4 with all four characters in Slay the Spire so I'm gonna finally retire that game and wait for the sequel.

I basically had no safety net whatsoever until 30 because I was a dumbfuck NEET, but since I started work I've tried to give myself a relatively easy maintainable consistent way to build one. Since I live with family I just contribute a bit more than a third of my wage to paying for bills and shit, and then another third goes directly into an index fund. The last third I use for the month to pay for general necessities and luxuries like games and anything left at the next payday goes into a savings account for emergencies/bigger luxuries (eg if I want to travel). Also pay into a work pension that my work contributes to.

So far built up £15,000 including the pension, which I know isn't exactly a lot but it's sure as fuck better than what I had when I was NEET in my late 20s which was nothing

My life plan is to just keep this situation going as long as possible and hope that I build up enough before I have to live solo basically. At some point my mother will retire and that'll change the dynamic, though, and that's not too far away. Less than 5 years.
