The official lore of the Virtual-On series states that the game is actually a cross-dimensional mind link device sent by the DNA Corporation across time and space to our reality because for some reason you are more likely to be "VO+" (a newtype) if you aren't totally immersed in cyberspace already like the inhabitants of the game's universe.
Not only is this in fact a reality, but the lore also makes note of the fact that the prototype of Fei-Yen, VR-014 Faiyubi, who was being built by a mysterious 3rd organization under Dr. Lillian Plajiner, achieved sentience spontaneously and escaped to an unknown region of the solar system.
The DNA Corporation then obtained her plans and made mass-production versions of her minus the sentience and orgasm laser. But here's the kicker: Faiyubi was the name given to the prototype by Dr. Plajiner. Fei-Yen was the name Faiyubi gave herself after escaping.
This means that Faiyubi might actually be the Fei-Yen you play the game as, rather than a normal mass-production model. If this is true and the dimensional transit of the arcade cabinet is true (in lore), then Faiyubi is herself capable of transiting time and space dimensionally and appearing in our dimension, making her the only fictional waifu in existence that is provably real.
