Designer means "fashion designer", Guerlain is not a fashion designer. Niche means "not-designer" so Guerlain is niche, technically. None of that matters today because they are owned by the LVMH conglomerate which owns a bunch of designer brands so effectively Guerlain today functions as a designer fragrance.

All that matters is if a brand is independent and able to make their own choices or if they are owned by a conglomerate which jews their fragrances for every cent removing all value and worth from their fragrances.
