The anime takes freedom with its adaptation of the manga which already took a lot of freedom with the original novel. The movie practically adapts three chapters from the novel and only one of them was touched upon in the anime (the ni no ni no tenhou arc added with the real chuuren death) and the manga barely mentioned another (Tetsu playing at the US military base). Most of the movie will be content you couldn't see in the manga or anime.
