I wasn't talking about characters. I specifically used the term "lore figures." Shar, Mystra, and Lolth are goddesses, elements of the foundational mythos of the setting - to portray them is akin to portraying gravity or the seasons, immutable laws of the world. In other words, it's not about how the writers feel or felt, how they interpret or interpreted these deities in the moment, or how long ago they gave mommy and daddy a call. Nor was it, once again, within the realm of possibility for them to alter characterization in a game overseen by WotC.
