DD2 could have been ANYTHING it wanted to after the insane story and gameplay Dark Arisen added to DD1.
The fact that they made it the same story as base DD1 with less encounters and easier gameplay just shows they dont care about it.
It was always just a Beta test for new Monster Hunter mechanics even since DD1.
Dark Arisen was when they realized the potential, and took it seriously, and it'll never be that good again.
