Tell you a story that I doubt anyone will believe but whatever.
Growing up when I was playing pokemon red, I was at my gran's house staying over one weekend. So after a long day of playing pokemon while sat in her living room, I save the game, eject the pokemon cartridge and place it on the flat top surface of my gran's CRT television, then insert my wario game and play that for a bit.
The next morning I come downstairs excited to play pokemon red again and when I insert the cartridge into the gameboy colour and turn it on, the entire save has been wiped. Not like someone has started a new game and saved, I mean a complete wipe, starting over from zero as if you'd just bought a fresh cartridge. All my pokemon gone.
The only possible explanation I can think of is that the static electricity from the CRT has somehow fucked the memory within the cartridge. How the fuck could I have known at 8 years old that the top of the TV wasn't a safe place to leave my cartridge? I have never met another person who this has happened to.
