The whole kris they/them thing was just toby doing a natural extension of Frisk being gender ambiguous for insertion reasons but he ended up dropping that and making kris much more of a character post chapter 1 but he already committed to the they/them bit
Kris is 100% suppose to be male and not a female btw pretty sure even toby see's kris as male
