Reminder he will be the true final boss only unlocked after you 100% the rest of the game. His fight will have 6 phases, one for each soul color (orange and cyan will be a single soul and will work like Ikaruga).
The fight is also being balanced so a frame perfect no damage run lasts one hour and 6 minutes and is so hard that the person to beat him the fastest will do it in their 66th try

I think the main reason people are against papyrus knight theory is because for some off reason; deltarune fans don't want undertale characters to be important to deltarune, but I think the possibility is higher than Carol and even rival Dess in some aspects, or at the very least will be revealed to be a lacky of sorts for the knight, I would bet my soul on it, papyrus will be important and we will have a fight against him.

The main reason for me right now is that he's only been mentioned in passing as sans' brother and not had any presence in the story. If The Knight turned out to be someone we haven't even seen in some way these past chapters, even optionally, then it's just going to be a narrative wash since there's nothing to look back on that would have been an obvious sign he's the knight beyond "he's been hiding in his house the whole time!"

The Deltarune is Susie, aka the monster with Determination.
Think about what Alphys was trying to do in the true lab, think about Susie's actions since ch1, then think about Gerson coaching Susie.
The game only has one ending because the goal was never to alter the prophecy in the first place, it was the Deltarune, the monster with determination, in all routes the story ends with the end of all Darkners, however depending on if the player unlocked Susie's determination, things will carry on from there.
Ultra schizo mode: Toby will release a free software that will check for a savefile with Susie having determination with it, and if it finds one, it will open as a direct continuation of the game, and that's only in that game where Gaster actually appears and fights (you) over Susie.

The speculation isn't even about the ending it's about shipping. I was about to say it was about the identity of the Knight but we don't actually have any facts that allow us to come anywhere close to definitively saying which of the Holidays it is. Like we actually don't know ANYTHING about any of the Holidays that would even be considered a hint as to which one is the Knight.

The problem is that the story hasn't actually done anything - it's still setting shit up. The characters are fucking around with mundane issues while existential problems are staring them in the face. It's not like Undertale where Frisk was fucking stuck and had to get out and fell ass backwards into some serious shit. Deltarune tells us the serious shit is here and everyone is still going to school or whatever the fuck. At least Asgore was established as a "boss" both as king and the guy pushing Frisk around - you don't even fucking know why the Knight is doing anything.

All Dess has in terms of narrative threads are a few people vaguely talking about her and her room. Sure we know she went missing and that she was important to a lot of people but how would that tie into her identity of being a violent knight? Both narratively and thematically it wouldn't make sense for her to give up years of her life to serve on purpose on one week. It's far more likely that she's lost in a dark world that Carol and the rest of her family are trying to save her from. It would tie into the whole "Find her" thing well. Carol being the knight makes more sense because then she would have more of a motivation to capture officer Undyne and sacrifice her to save Dess. The Police are just eyecandy in hometown after all. But still, the ramifications that would happen if she were to get caught would doom her and her family so it's best to have a gullible fall guy do the dirty work for you.

We saw earlier that Spamton was connected to UNUSED in some way, since you could hear their words through him in some shop dialogue (the line that's followed with "BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE TALKING TO YOU"), so if Noelle is UNUSED then they heard your call through Spamton and attacked him through the phone, as foreshadowed by that one attack he has where he gets blasted by his own phone. It also lines up with the "Thank you" line in Chapter 4, which are the last words said by UNUSED in their chapter 4 dialogue.

We could just be getting bits of Dess's memories from when she was lost in the dark. Undertale does something similar with Frisk seeing Chara's memories at different points in the story.

I think it's easy for people like us who have been intensely scrutinizing the game for the better part of the last decade to forget that the average player's experience is nothing like ours and they aren't hyper-vigilant about every clue Toby is putting on the table for us.
If you were already very familiar with what we knew about Dess from every drop of information you could squeeze out of the first two Chapters and the Spamton Sweepstakes, then you probably immediately jumped to the conclusion that The Knight was Dess as soon as you saw that they had antlers and DEFINITELY called it when she pulls out a baseball bat.
But the average player is not going to immediately recognize that and probably doesn't know they have all the pieces they need to put that together. The average player is being led to believe that Carol is The Knight, with Chapter 4 presenting her as an obvious villain collaborating with Kris and even throwing stuff out there like her having a giant fucking katana. But whether you know Dess is the Knight or not doesn't really matter, because the actual tension and payoff is what's going to happen when The Knight's identity is revealed to the characters in the story. For now, we just have the pleasure of appreciating the subtle hints that other people will have to go back and appreciate in hindsight.
