My point was, if you have ONLY the data point of violent death in a society, you couldn't say which one is fighting a modern war and which is just poor and violent. That's all. Which is crazy to thing about at least to me. The average Afghani has a lower chance of dying violently than the average Brazilian!
Of course, the kind of violence, the distribution of the violence, the cause of the violence are very different, that's why you can go for a resort holiday to Rio but not to Kabul.
