I don't! Think about it from his perspective. Dehumanized and demonized by humans at every turn no matter what. Why would he have a deep attachment to their world? Maria would tell him that they're going to explore Earth *together*. Any of the things she mentioned, exploring, sightseeing, etc. are now heavily associated with Maria in his mind, and it's only ever a reminder that he can't see it with her. But even so, he does still find some enjoyment in things on Earth, even if he's not expressive about it.
